Our latest Interiors auction including music on 1st November hit all the right notes with many musical items exceeding their estimates!
Lot 106, our highest selling lot was a Hart & Son cased violin, selling for a fantastic £1,100! All of the violins in this sale soared above their estimates, lot 55, a full size German violin made £340, well above its £40-80 estimate. Lot 88, a repro Nicolaus Amatus violin in its case, estimated at £20-30 made £240.
The violins did not steal all the limelight in our musical theme. Lot 103, a Guitare Hawaienne Gelas guitar number 1358, 1930 JR Paris, with a Kandowski label, estimated at £100-150, made an impressive £480. Lot 131, a Fender electric Jazz base guitar shattered its estimate of £60-100, making £360! Lot 66, a record case full of 60’s and 70’s records including Beatles proved that some still believe in yesterday – its estimate of £40-60 well and truly beaten, making £110. Lot 61, a Yamaha trumpet also beat its estimate of £40-80, as it went for £120.
There were also some unexpected surprises in the remainder of the sale. Lot 3, a box of 25 penknives including a military multitool crushed its estimate of £20-30, making £380 when the hammer fell. Lot 215, a case of dolls including an original boxed Sindy, estimated £5-15, made £440! Lot 508, an 18th Century antique oak settee estimated at £100-200 went for £500, and lot 493, two heavy studded oak doors estimated at £100-200 made £520. Continuing the trend, lot 592, a large oak refectory table by Monastic Woodwork Ravenstonedale went for £650, smashing its original estimate of £300-300. Oak retained its popularity again when lot 471, an oak child’s rocker went under the hammer for £160, its estimate £20-40.
