Dating from the Russian Romanov period, this beautiful diamond and amethyst brooch caught everyone’s attention. Marked in 56 zolotnik (approx. 14ct) gold mount, the oval facet amethyst boasted 25cts approx.
Perhaps its most striking feature is not its beauty, but its provenance.
Originally retailed by Duralsby & Co in St Petersburg, it was thought to have been gifted to the vendor’s family by Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, following assistance given during the Blitz.
It sold to the internet for £4,100.
