Mourning Doll with brooch

From a house clearance, a 19th Century wax head doll did well. In its wooden case with a Scottish thistle attached to her dress, she came with a mourning brooch with woven hair laid by her feet.

Typically dolls of this type were commissioned as mourning dolls, depicting a deceased child, usually incorporating some of the subject’s hair into the doll’s head.

It sold to the room for £160.
